“Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive.” – Dalai Lama

Compassion is the act of shared empathetic consciousness. Luminous is used often to describe celestial bodies and in optics, the term luminosity factor describes the wavelength of a light source that appears to the eye. It is time we move from the linear reaction and response into L.U.M.I.N.O.U.S Compassionate Action.

My vision of L.U.M.I.N.O.U.S is made up of 8 rhythms:

  1. Love
  2. Unlimited Potential
  3. Mirror Consciousness
  4. Intentional Action
  5. Negotiation with the Heart
  6. Optimism
  7. Unconditional
  8. Service

Once these are embodied in you, they will only deepen and reshape the way you see, feel, experience and take action in your daily life to change the world.

You are invited to take Compassionate Action in one or more of the 8 ways listed below.

1. Love

Pledge to support organizations and people who are spreading the message of LOVE.

Spread hearts to others randomly and just because post on Instagram @growyourknowing

Join the LOVE>hate Project.

The LOVE>hate Project

founded by Dr. Buck Blodgett, author of
A Message from Jessie: The Incredible True Story of Murder and Miracles in the Heartland.

After the tragic and violent death of his beloved daughter, Jessie, Dr. Blodgett transformed
unimaginable pain into a mission of forgiveness and healing. Through resilience and love, he invites us to discover the hidden blessings and purpose within trauma.

Join us for a conversation about loss, hope, and the enduring power of love.

It’s time to dive into LOVE. Our breath and our joy can create a revolution of Love – here is an inspiring TED Talk by Dada Nabhaniilananda who I had the privilege to teach with on the Vital Influence Portal.

Dada Nabhaniilananda, aka The Monk Dude is a meditation instructor, an author, a keynote speaker and a musician. Born in New Zealand, he was ordained as a yoga monk in India in 1979 and has been teaching meditation for 44 years. His book on meditation has been translated into twelve languages and is a standard text for meditation teachers all over the world. In addition to writing both fiction and non-fiction books, Dada has won several international song-writing awards, recorded eight musical albums and performed and spoken in more than forty countries, including playing to more than 10,000 people at the 1992 Rio Earth Summit where he appeared onstage with the Dalai Lama.

Dada now lives in Silicon Valley, California, where he teaches courses on meditation, creativity and innovation at UC Berkeley, Apple, NVIDIA, Google, Micron, CISCO, Lam Research, Intel and Facebook.

2. Unlimited Potential

To awaken your unlimited potential, use sound like Solfeggio frequencies – because everything (including you) is about vibration and balance. Your body and all matter exist at different rates of vibration and have their own resonant frequencies. Therefore, sound and vibration play a fundamental role in your life by affecting physical, mental and spiritual levels of your human being.

This action of vibration on matter is known as Cymatics. Hans Jenny (1904-1972), the father of Cymatics, claimed that physical healing could be aided by vibrational tones. Independent researchers and sound therapists use specific frequencies to bring harmony and balance in the physical body.

Sound vibration can even change the structure of matter. As you increase the frequency, the matter keeps forming more complex patterns. The patterns are strictly the result of physical vibration. Experience the power of Solfeggio frequencies by practicing my Chakra Clearing meditation.

3. Mirror Consciousness

We live again and again. Once we grow our consciousness we can learn new lessons and help ourselves and others evolve. Believe that you help to create and shape your own reality.

Once you start to believe that the universe loves you – miracles will happen and whatever shows up in front of you – you helped to create.

4. Intentional Action

Write a letter / note or send a heartfelt email to a person or organization that is making change or helping others.

Be a Samantha Smith. One letter can change the world – and this one, written by a 10 year old girl from Maine, did.

6. Optimism

Stay hopeful and optimistic by drinking in a sunset, playing with dogs and kids, and giving a compliment to a stranger.

Spread optimism by handing out hearts, smiles.

The Optimist Creed

Promise Yourself…

To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind

To make all your friends feel that there is something in them

To think only of the best, to work only for the best and to expect only the best

To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future

To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others

To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet

To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true

To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own

To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile

To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble

Donate your time to volunteer.

Open a door for a stranger.

Write letters to children’s organizations.

My luminous leadership journey began at the University of Southern Maine (USM), where I served as the Vice Chair of the Student Senate and was engaged in environmental service – learning in middle schools. In the mid 1990s, USM helped organize Yolanda King to come to Maine. I will never forget her words.

“I have chosen to continue to promote ‘we’re one, the oneness of us’, and shine the spotlight as my father did.“ – Yolanda King
